Saturday night saw the 1st Grand Prix of 2025, The “Zoom” Memorial Shield take place in the Sandwick Social Club with an excellent turnout of 62 players entering on the night.
The early rounds produced some close and competitive games before the quarter finals saw Calum Williamson beat Iain Blance 4-1, Evan Goudie edge a close game 4-3 against Ryan Inkster, Calum Irvine defeat Arnold Brown 4-2 and Craig Main beat John Dunnet 4-0.
The semi finals were played over the best of 9 legs and saw Evan Goudie defeat Calum Williamson by 5 legs to 1 to progress through to the final whilst semi final number 2 went to a last leg decider between Calum Irvine and Craig Main with Calum emerging a 5-4 winner.
The final was played over the best of 11 legs which saw Calum claim the opening leg, Evan then took the next 3 legs in a row to take an early 3-1 lead before Calum levelled the match at 3 apiece as he claimed legs five and six. The following 2 legs were shared between the players before Evan moved ahead in leg 9 and going on to claim victory in leg 10 of the match in doing so claiming the “Zoom” Memorial Shield which would be his second Grand Prix victory of the season.
The SDA would like to thank the Sandwick Social Club for hosting the event and organising hot food to be provided during the nights play.
During the nights play 180’s were recorded from Stuart Manson, Hayden Jamieson, Craig Smith, Stuart Copeland, Stuart Paul, Kyle Tait, Iain Blance & Evan Goudie
The highest checkout on the night went to Craig Smith 145, other high finishes eere recorded from Stuart Manson 120, Calum Williamson 120, Ryan Inkster 107, 101, 100, Barry Couper 100, Craig Main 109 & Calum Irvine 120,110.
