Saturday night saw a very healthy turnout of 59 players enter the Hughson Brother Shield Grand Prix in the Whitedale Social Club. The competition saw a high standard of darts being played in the early rounds leading up to the quarter finals as players were trying to pick up their 1st ranking points of the year.

The quarter finals saw Liam Sutherland (Delting Boating Club) beat John Philip Sandison (Whalsay) 4-3; Evan Goudie (Posties) defeat Ryan Inkster 4-1 (MegaDerts), Tommy Williamson (Bar Stewards) beat Keith Hay (Delting Boating Club) 4-2 and finally Kyle Tait (Sandwick Arrows) beat Roger Irvine (Whalsay) 4-1.

The two semi-finals were played over the best of 9 legs, the first of which went to the final leg with Evan Goudie progressing through to the final with a 5-4 victory over Liam Sutherland, the second semi final saw Tommy Williamson reach the final with a 5-2 victory over Kyle Tait.

The final was played over the best of 11 legs and saw Evan take a early 2-0 lead before Tommy claimed the following 2 leg to level the match, Evan re-established his lead in legs three and four to move into a 4-2 lead before once again Tommy levelled in leg 8 to make it 4 a piece, Evan again took the lead in leg 9 before claiming victory in the next leg to emerge a 6-4 and claim the Hughson Brothers shield and his first Grand Prix victory. During the event 180’s were recorded from Liam Sutherland x2, David John Anderson, Ryan Inkster x 2, Tommy Williamson x2, Marc Henry, Ryan Mustard, Gary Devaney, Stuart Farmer, Evan Goudie x3, Stuart Paul x2, Nigel Williamson, Craig Sneddon, Kyle Tait & John Philip Sandison. 171’s were recorded from Jim Wood x2 and Liam Sutherland.

The highest Checkout on the night went to Stuart Paul who finished 143, other high checkouts were recorded from Liam Sutherland 120,104, Keith hay 106, Stuart Paul 101 & Ramsay Hogg 117
