With the 1st half of the League season over Friday night saw a 63 players enter the first Grand Prix of the season which was held in the Scalloway Legion for the second year running. After some very close and hard fought games of a good standard of darts in the early rounds of competition the quarterfinals were played simultaneously on four boards.
The quarter finals saw 4 very close matches with Roger Irvine beating Alan Patterson 3-2, Ian Hannah beating Barry Couper 3-2 Gareth MacRitchie edged past Arnold Brown 3-2 and the final quarter final saw Scott Johnson beat Ramsay Hogg 3-1. The 2 semi finals were played over the best of 7 legs and saw Roger reach the final after beating Ian Hannah 4 -1 whilst the other semi final saw Gareth MacRitchie beat Scott Johnson 4-2.
The final between Roger Irvine and Gareth MacRitchie saw a good standard of darts thrown by both players, the early stages saw the first 4 legs shared, Roger took the next leg against the before holding his own thrown to take a 4-2 lead. Gareth then took the following 2 legs hitting a 128 checkout along the way to level the match at 4 lags all. In a tight final leg it was Roger who was first to hit the double to claim the title.
On the night 180s were recorded from Gareth MacRitchie, Nigel Williamson, Vic Young, Iain Blance, Harold Sutherland (x2), Paul Bell, Roger Irvine, Scott Johnson, Gary Smith, Grant T Thomson, Barry Couper & Arnold Brown.
High Checkouts were recorded from Steven Hughson 142, Alan Patterson 130, Gareth MacRitchie 128, 116, Craig smith 122, Stuart Shearer 116, Marc Henry 114, Harold Sutherland 110, David Urquhart 100 & Barry Couper 100.
The women’s competition saw 5 players enter a round robin completion with the Top two players in the group going on to play a best of 7 legs final. After some close games in the group stage the Final between Jackie Black & Melanie Couper was Jackie emerge the winner 4 legs to 1.
Melanie also scored a 180 along with a 134 checkout.
